In Memory Of Sam, a great friend

My heart goes out to my Best Friend, Diana, today.  She lost a loving little friend today, her Bijon Sam.

Diana rescued Sam a couple of years ago when his owner passed away.  Sam was elderly and had numerous medical problems, but was a sweet, loving pooch and Diana opened her home to him.  He joined two other super special friends, Yanni (he joined his Dad, Ray, earlier this year) and Missy and fit right in.

Diana and Missy will miss Sam immensely.  Bye Sammy, I know you are in Heaven and pain-free now.  God Bless you.

VETERANS - A Huge Thanks for All Your Sacrifices

Today is Veterans Day and I want to thank each and every Veteran for serving and protecting our great Nation.  The sacrifices you have made are huge and, I, for one am very thankful.  This Veteran appreciates everything you have done.

I was recently in my local VA Office and saw this poem.  No name was provided, so I cannot give credit where credit is due, but I do believe it is worth posting.

Again, Thanks to all the men and women who have served our Country!

A VETERAN DIED TODAY

     He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast, and he sat around the post telling stories of the past.

     Of a war that he fought in and the deeds that he had done.  In his exploits with his buddies, they were heroes everyone.

     And though sometimes to his neighbors, his tales became a joke, all his buddies listened, for they knew whereof he spoke.

     But we'll hear his tales no longer, for ol' Bob has passed away, and the world's a littler poorer, for a veteran died today.

     No he won't be mourned by many, just his children and his wife, for he lived an ordinary, very quiet sort of life.

     He held a job and raised a family, quietly going on his way, and the world won't note his passing, though a veteran died today.

    When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state, while thousands note their passing and proclaim that they were great.

     Papers tell of their life stories, from the time that they were young, but the passing of a veteran goes unnoticed and unsung.

     Is the greatest contribution, to the welfare of our land, someone who makes a promise and fools his fellow man?

     Or an ordinary fellow, who in times of war and strife, goes off to serve his country and offers up his life?

     The politician's stipend and the style in which he lives are sometimes disproportionate, to the service that he gives.

     While the ordinary veteran who offered up his all, is paid off with a medal and perhaps a pension small.

     It's so easy to forget them, for it is so long ago, that our Bobs and Jims and Johnnys, went to battle, but we know.

     He was just a common veteran and his ranks are growing thin, but his presence should remind us, we may need his likes again.

     For when countries are in conflict, then we find our military's part is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start.

     If we can not do him honor while he''s here to hear the praise, then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days.

     Perhaps just a simple headline in the paper that might say:  Our country is in mourning, for a veteran died today.

My father passed away this year.  A man who served in World War II.  A man who loved his Country so much he instilled that belief into me, his daughter.  For you see, I, too, served our Country and I am proud to be called a Veteran.  God Bless you Dad and my wonderful husband, Gene, for serving our great Country.

Spring Mountain

Mustangs are such wild creatures.  

Surviving on their own in the wild, but absolutely marvelous to watch.

Recently our friends took us for a drive around North Las Vegas and we went up to Spring Mountain to look for wild mustangs and then on over to Mount Charleston to see what it offers.  We had lunch at the restaurant and enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying the warm weather and the good food.

While we were driving up Spring Mountain we saw several groups of mustangs up close.  Some were skin and bones, but the brightness in their eyes showed they were far from being beaten down.  They are really fantastic to watch.  I've taken some pictures, but they really don't do the horses justice.

This guy on top looked back at me like he was saying, "And, what exactly are you doing?"  Isn't he great?

These guys close in decided to ignore us and started munching away again.

As we got closer to these two, you could see they were chomping on a Joshua Tree.  Hmmmm, I didn't think they were edible.

The picture above and below is of a horse that was part of a group of horses that were standing in the road.  We pulled over to look at them and this one was curious enough to come over and give us a once over.  He even stuck his head in the back window.  When those of us in the back seat didn't offer up any goodies he looked towards the guys in the front seat as it to say, "Hey, how about you?"  Of course it is illegal to given them food, so we were unable to satisfy his curiosity, but he sure was cute.

We saw these guys as we were coming back down Spring Mountain.

All in all, it was a great trip. We not only were able to see the wild mustangs, but we saw burrors and donkeys, eagles and numerous other wild life.

If you ever make it out to Las Vegas, take time to go up Spring Mountain and then over to Mount Charleston.  It will be worth your time.
